Tomorrow will be the final Part of the Chesapeake Forum course Tracks Through Time, The History of Delmarva’s Railroads.

During our time in Part 3 we covered the renewed competition between the economic influences of Baltimore and Philadelphia, the last lines built on Delmarva such as the BC&A, and MD&V, railroad equipment supporting trade, like insulated and ice-cooled box cars, Nationalization during World War One, the highway building programs of the 1920s, the start of the abandonment trend, the Bay Bridges, and the large scale bankruptcy of the Penn Central Corp.

This week, we spring full speed from 1976 to the present day, we will discuss how state and federal governments affect railroad policy, what some big names were in the development of new government agencies, some important legislation, where railroad transportation is today and where it is headed tomorrow.
